OsoShameless, but truly Embarrassed…

This is the uplifting tale of an honest, law-abiding individual with a spotless record, who endured years of incarceration and now confronts a lifetime of unjust scrutiny, all because of their misinterpretation of an unclear portion of the law.

With resolute resolve, they embark on a mission not only to illuminate their personal struggle but also to drive change within a system that permits such injustices to persist. Their aim is to contribute to the reconstruction of a justice system marred by greed and indifference, with the ultimate goal of forging a fairer and more compassionate society for all.

Contributors are Desperately Needed

We desperately need your help, to bring constructive change to our society, to help make our streets safe once again.

A Vision For The Future

We envision a world where injustice is confronted head-on, where each case is individually and fairly adjudicated, where all individuals, regardless of their gender or race, receive equal treatment under the law. In this world, inmates are no longer subjected to mistreatment, serving as commodities for the profit of influential private corporations.

Vision

Actionable Issues

It’s essential that we reform our Justice and Penal systems. We must provide genuine education and rehabilitation for inmates and, most importantly, offer them a path to reintegrate into society as productive members.

To achieve this, we must tackle numerous issues and rely on significant support. We have the potential to leverage technology to address these challenges and amplify our presence in society. We urge you to add your voice to ours, becoming part of our collective effort to bring about change.

Issues

Correct Injustice

We are unwavering in our commitment to uncover and rectify the numerous injustices within our legal system. Our mission extends to securing the release of individuals currently incarcerated for actions that are no longer considered crimes, like marijuana use. Furthermore, we are resolute in our efforts to end the troubling practice of enacting laws that can convict individuals who are unaware of their actions’ criminality or who have been assured by the law itself that their behavior is lawful.

Provide Rehabilitation

Today’s prisons often fall short when it comes to meaningful rehabilitation. Educational programs, in many cases, leave much to be desired. Inmates are handed a hefty book, tasked with reading just a fraction of it on their own, answering simplistic multiple-choice questions, and then swiftly passed through the process. True education should be about genuine learning, not just going through the motions.

Additionally, job opportunities within prisons are incredibly scarce, with fewer than 10% of inmates having access to employment. These jobs aren’t designed to help individuals acquire valuable skills but are typically reserved for those who already have prior experience. They exist primarily to benefit private companies, which exploit inmates by paying them a mere $0.19 an hour. To put this in perspective, an inmate may have to work a grueling 12-hour shift just to afford a basic necessity like deodorant, which can cost $2.35. As a result, most inmates exit prison ill-equipped to meet even the most basic job requirements, having never held an 8-hour job.

Eliminate Mandatory Sentencing

A powerful and rapidly expanding movement is standing against mandatory sentencing – a cause we wholeheartedly endorse. In the realm of justice, every case is unique, with distinct circumstances and motivations that must be taken into account during sentencing. Mandatory sentencing strips away this vital element of discretion, ensuring that injustices occur and that individuals are wrongfully sentenced.

We pride ourselves on being champions of democracy and a beacon of fairness, yet through rigid mandatory sentencing, we inadvertently condemn individuals without even understanding their unique situations. It’s time to reevaluate our approach and uphold the principles of justice and fairness that our nation stands for.

Turn Ex-cons into Contributing Members of Society

Our ultimate objective is refreshingly straightforward: to create a safer and more rational world by offering ex-convicts a viable pathway to reintegrate into society as productive and law-abiding citizens. In essence, we aim to achieve two paramount outcomes: a significant reduction in the crime rate and the enhancement of overall societal productivity.

By providing former inmates with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to turn their lives around, we can curtail the cycle of criminality and recidivism that plagues our communities. In doing so, we not only make our neighborhoods safer but also empower individuals to contribute positively to our society, bolstering its strength and resilience.

This mission is not just about righting past wrongs; it’s about shaping a brighter future for us all, where everyone has a chance to thrive and where the well-being of our communities is paramount. Together, we can transform our justice and penal systems, leading the way toward a more secure, prosperous, and just world.

About Us

This platform is dedicated to tackling core issues that profoundly affect society. Our Justice and Corrections systems are in a state of crisis, and their shortcomings have consequences for all of us. To truly understand the gravity of the situation, let’s take a moment to apply some common sense:

Imagine you have a dog that occasionally nips at your heels. You decide to send your furry friend to obedience school to address this behavior. However, when your dog returns, it’s transformed into a fierce biter. Who’s to blame for this outcome? Can we say the obedience school is effective when most dogs it trains actually regress in behavior? This analogy mirrors our Justice and Corrections system.

It’s essential to recognize that this might not be an intentional failing, but rather a systemic issue. However, as taxpayers and members of the public, this system belongs to us; it is OUR system and OUR responsibility. If we allow it to continue failing, we bear the blame. We must take ownership of the problem and work collectively to rectify it. It’s not just about fixing the system; it’s about safeguarding our own well-being and the well-being of our communities. Let’s make the necessary changes together.

The real truth

Ex-convicts often struggle to gain the public’s attention when they attempt to shed light on the challenges they’ve faced within the prison system. People tend to dismiss their stories, cynically assuming that they’re dishonest and will fabricate anything to serve their interests. It’s a viewpoint I once shared, believing that the system was fundamentally sound—until I found myself ensnared in a personal ordeal.

I want to emphasize this point: I would never have grasped the harsh reality if I hadn’t experienced it firsthand. I’m fully aware that convincing others of my experiences can be an uphill battle. To address this skepticism, I’ve meticulously documented every aspect of my journey for your examination.

I don’t expect you to take my word for it immediately—frankly, some of the experiences I’m about to share may seem too incredible to be true. But they are undeniably genuine.

Give us your voice

These prisons belong to us—the public. We bear a moral responsibility for their state and the lives within them. We implore you to add your voice to our cause, to stand with us in solidarity, and contribute to fostering meaningful change.

This is not a call for revolution or the dismantling of the existing system; rather, it’s a call for correction and improvement—a change that will benefit us all. The ultimate outcome will be a tangible reduction in the crime rate, making our society safer for everyone.
